4 Easy Ways to Free Up Storage on Android

Hey everyone, a lot of people suffer from constant “memory full” messages on their phones. Many delete photos, videos, and even apps, and nothing seems to solve the problem. Here are 4 simple tips to free up Android memory and get rid of those annoying notifications, while also improving your smartphone ‘s performance .

Tip 1: Clear your browser’s cookies.

Yes, your browser is the villain; everything you visit on the internet generates what’s called a cookie, which is nothing more than a temporary memory that stores information within the browser, such as searches, pages visited, and even advertisements.

Getting rid of it is very simple. In your Android settings , go to “applications”, choose your browser app, select “storage”, click on “clear cache” and that’s it! We’ve already eliminated a good portion of unnecessary files.

Tip 2: Use a file management application.

Nowadays, WhatsApp is the most used app in the world, but also the biggest enemy of your phone ‘s memory . For some unknown reason, it stores every media file that passes through the app. How can I explain this better? Let’s say I receive a photo ; I download it, and it’s automatically saved to my device. So far, so good. But when we send an image that’s on our phone, WhatsApp creates a copy of the image you already have – and this also applies to videos, music, audio, and documents.

Here’s the solution: ideally, you should have a file management app if your phone doesn’t already have one. Within your app, search for “WhatsApp”. You’ll usually find three folders there: media, database, and backups. The first folder contains media files generated by your app (gifs, audio, music, documents, images, profile pictures, videos). However, within each of these sections, there are received and sent files – these are stored in a subfolder called “sent”. Delete all the “sent” folders or select the media you want to delete manually. This will free up Android memory, making it more responsive.

Tip 3: Create a Google Photos account.

Nowadays, it’s very common for people to take thousands of photos daily, especially with so many social networks dedicated to this. Besides photos, there are videos, which take up even more space. So, what’s the big tip? Actually, the tip is very simple: create a Google Photos account. This can save a good amount of your phone’s memory, as it offers 15GB for storing videos and photos.

To use Google Photos, all you need is a Google email address, specifically a Gmail account. This grants you access to Google’s cloud-based application. Too complicated? Of course not.

Tip 4: Save your files to the cloud.

In modern life, we need to have everything at our fingertips with a click — presentations, summaries, college and school assignments, books, and more. All of this ends up consuming Android memory and consequently slows down your phone.

Google also has Google Drive, a cloud storage service that helps us save smartphone memory and keep our documents safe. It allows you to upload your documents to the cloud and keep them saved without using up your mobile device’s storage capacity. Just like Google Photos, to use Google Drive (which can also store photos) you only need a Google email account, such as Gmail.

And those were the tips to free up Android memory and finally get rid of those annoying “low space” messages. Did you like the tips? Share them with your friends!
